SEXAPILOSA

Maria Elena Castro

STATEMENT

Modesty and all that the word encompassed seemed to be one of our household's mostprized virtues, especially for my sister and I. The older I became, the more I realized that in order to be a "good girl" I must be modest. According to my parents, being anything less, would probably have lead me astray to a life of "loose womanhood."

The only problem with this virtue, was that it seemed that the scale between my older brother and my sister and I was completely uneven. The girls of the family were the ones that always seemed to have the burden of carrying the torch of modesty. We were the ones that where always warned about the evils of becoming a "worldly woman". In fact, according to my modest mother, being one of those women was the worst thing you could ever become: A "worldly woman" was a bad woman, that lived independently, that dated many men, and of course was not a virgin before marriage.A worldly woman was one that thrived on her sex appeal, enjoyed having sex, and could care less about "lo que diran."

Eventually for me, this expectation of modesty, the one that only seemed to apply to the women of the family, got old and tired. I never went on a sexual rampage or anything close to it in order to become that "worldly, loose woman", but for my modest family, Iwas definitely the rebellious one. In that spirit of a sexual rebellion against what seemed as a constricting virtue, is where SEXAPILOSA is born.
