CUADRILáTERO II - LA LUCHA que nos LIBRE! * Tropico de Nopal Gallery-Art Space is proud to present CUADRILáTERO II - LA LUCHA que nos LIBRE! an exhibition of paintings, drawings, mixed media, film and fashion depicting the popular Mexican wrestling (Lucha Libre). CUADRILáTERO is the term Mexican announcers call the classic geometric square-shaped ring where masked wrestlers (luchadores) embody their alter ego. The artists in CUADRILáTERO II have grown as Lucha Libre aficionados, they where invited by artist and gallery owner Reyes Rodriguez whose family background knows the Cuadrilatero all too well. His uncle, a professional wrestler in Guadalajara, Jalisco, briefly revived his career in East Los Angeles in the late 70's, with his traditional mask and known by name of "El Veneno Negro" (The Black Poison). |
