| Originally from Mexico City, Ixrael moved to Los Angeles in 1995. A graduate of the National School of Fine Arts and the National Autonomous University of Mexico, in Mexico City, he possesses the skills to confront any artistic challenge. Ixrael is an accomplished woodcut printer, giving his paintings a graphic quality with a noticeably strong foundation in drawing.
In his new paintings Ixrael explores the restless human spirit and social idiosyncrasies ingrained in urban conditions. For the artist these conditions are exposed in the work produced in his trajectory to Los Angeles, passing through Tijuana, and now in his current residence in New York. Ixrael, an artist who embodies the transient spirit himself, gives us a glimpse into the world of prostitution, tourism, and cultural contradictions inherent in the great urban conglomerates .His new work, consisting of oil paintings and mixed media, are filled with imagery that transcends the physical harshness of the urban centers and reconstructs them into a dream state of heightened emotions and political consciousness. In his own words he says his painting "lives in the space between the objective and the subjective, between the material and the dream world, where there is no place for logic or order.
