December 5, 6 & 7, 2003
Fri & Sat @ 8pm Sun @ 4pm
TROPICO DE NOPAL Gallery-Art Space is proud to present VOCES/VOiCES by "Teatro East of The River", a recently formed youth theater group, performing in English and Spanish monologues and dialogues based on their experiences growing up and living in the Boyle Heights/Los Angeles area.
With a cast of nine, ages 15-21, they write and perform inspired by their own feelings, concerns and perspectives on love, the neighborhood, and "what they want the world to know" in a powerful, uncompromising and heartfelt presentation. Working under the dynamic young director Xavier Moreno (also a performer in the group), Alma Catalan, Luisa Flores, Daryl Nuhn, Raul Pool, Yandara Rodriguez-Jacob, Mariella Saba, Byron Umana and Jessica Viramontes give the audience creative insights into their lives and the people around them, delivering witty yet deeply sincere interpretations.
This is only the second run of their original material (first presented at CASA 0101/Summer 2003), yet these young performers and writers with their fervor and dedication show strong promises for their future as creative Angelinos.
