NO GLOBAL - NGBL Reactions to a hybrid intersection

OMAR NAVA watercolors, drawings and print installation

Omar Nava

LOS ANGELES, California – August 29, 2005 – Tropico de Nopal Gallery-Art Space continues its commitment to show and promote young up and coming talent with Tijuana artist OMAR NAVA first solo exhibition in Los Angeles.  “NO GLOBAL - NGBL reactions to a hybrid intersection” showcases the artist’s drawings, watercolors and a print installation with playful origami like shapes opening on September 17.

Omar Nava, works with traditional materials but his imagery is one that speaks to the urban and sociopolitical landscape that surrounds him. He has earned the respect as an artist and as a printer emerging as a creative force and contributor to the contemporary Tijuana art community. As the founder and printer of Talacha Ediciones, an etching press, he has worked alongside top emerging artists from the south of the border. His watercolors are exquisite and filled with wit and anamorphic creatures that have been favorites among private collectors in Southern California and Mexico.  He is the winner of the 2003 Bienal del Noroeste, and has been selected as a finalist in one of Mexico’s most prestigious drawing invitational this year.

In No Global – NGBL Omar Nava reacts to the intervention by outside forces that present and often conclude their investigations with a “happy hybrid” solution and ignoring the resources that initially triggered their curiosity. No Global – NGBL is a statement to the cause and effect rationale of globalization where all is easily found and manipulated to fit the fantasy of believing that the overwhelming reality has changed, as well as a rejection to a homogenized conclusion.

Omar Nava has exhibited extensively in Mexico and has had a great many of his drawings in magazines and publications throughout Mexico.

Tropico de Nopal Gallery-Art Space, officially in its fourth season, is an independent venue dedicated to exhibiting and promoting contemporary emerging and mid-career artists through cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary art forms.
