Game Over
Game Over
Paintings-installation-assemblage by Daniel Ruanova
January 24 - February 22, 2004

Ruanova means in Portuguese "new street" or “new route”, and as if honoring his name, Daniel has been creating new ways and waves in Mexican art. In Game Over, he brings to Tropico de Nopal an exhibition conceived almost entirely as a large installation/ assemblage with elements of traditional art mediums, such as paintings and serigraphs, coexisting next to interactive sculptures made out of imported plastic guns in a quasi “de-constructive” mode. By his use of RGB colors and the sheer repetition of images he provokes reactions suggesting society’s fascination with war games and destruction, and comments on the growing insensibility generated by the over exposure to violence and guns in virtual games and other mass entertainment mediums. Ruanova’s work invites us to touch and participate as well as ponder and reflect on a subject that has largely become part of our psyche.
